Questions people ask
Is this the official MCA name check?
No. The official check is the "Check Company Name" search on the MCA portal, and the only thing that reserves a name is an approved SPICe+ Part A (or RUN for an existing company). This tool runs the same resemblance tests on a copy of the MCA company master so you can rule out names before you pay the reservation fee.
How current is the data?
The register copy is updated from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs open-data files; the date of the newest incorporation in it is printed above the results. A name reserved or incorporated after that date will not show, so a "no conflict" result is a strong signal, not a guarantee.
Why does it say a name is taken when the words are different?
Because the Registrar ignores company-type words (Private Limited, LLP, OPC), articles and joining words, plurals, spacing, punctuation, the order of the words, phonetic spellings, internet designations and place names when comparing. "Acme Fintech Solutions Private Limited" and "Fintech Acme Pvt Ltd" are the same name under Rule 8A.
What about trademarks?
A name that matches a registered trademark in the same class can be refused even if no company uses it, and a trademark owner can object later. Search the trademark register on the IP India public search before you file. This tool does not check trademarks.
Which words need approval?
Words suggesting government patronage (Board, Commission, Authority, National, Central, Federal, Republic, Municipal and similar) need Central Government approval, and words like Bank, Insurance, Stock Exchange, Mutual Fund, Nidhi or Chit Fund need the sector regulator's approval. The tool flags them.
Does a struck-off company block my name?
A name identical to a company struck off is generally not available for two years from the date of striking off; a dissolved company's name is blocked for twenty years. The results show the status of each match so you can see whether the conflict is live.
How do I reserve the name once it is clear?
File SPICe+ Part A on the MCA portal with up to two proposed names and the main object; the fee is nominal and an approved name is reserved for 20 days for a new company (extendable on payment). Then complete Part B for incorporation. SimplySetup's Company Registration package includes the name application and the registered-office document kit.
